Derrell

Derrell is a young man with a big heart. He cares deeply about all his friends and works hard to care for his grandmother and all younger cousins. Derrell is always looking for ways to support his family, tirelessly looking for ways to be of assistance particularly with finances. He currently works at Gertrude’s Restaurant in the Baltimore Museum of Art four days a week. He hopes to continue working during the school year after class. Outside of work, Derrell loves music and dancing. He is particularly excited when he is dancing with his dance crew and competing at various competitions throughout the year. Derrell is hoping to even further expand his activities this coming year by joining the track team at Dunbar High School.

As a member the Incentive Mentoring Program, Derrell spends two days after school with tutors to further improve his academic performance and also spends weekends doing community service work at various locations. One particular group Derrell volunteers with even outside of Incentive Mentoring is Moveable Feast. He helps prepare food and meals for the homeless and the sick who have no ability to obtain meals on their own. Those who know Derrell will always describe him as a sincere and caring young man who will go the distance to help those in need. His family, his friends, and the mentors in the IMP program are all lucky to have Derrell as a part of their lives.
