Janel

Janel can’t walk through the hallways of Dunbar without stopping to give someone a hug. While her mother is out of the house working her full-time job and taking nursing classes, Janel is a care-taker and role model for her 2 six-year old siblings. Her family has moved twice in the last two years due to financial hardships, but Janel maintains a positive and supportive attitude. Janel joined the Dunbar debate team in ninth grade and will be co-captain her senior year. She is always eager to lend a helping hand when needed, the first to sign up for community service activities. Along with her IMP tutors she has spent time shadowing doctors, and plans to attend college with the hopes of working in the health-care field.

Janel says, "I cherish this quote because people never know how or what the days will bring to them so I make sure never to take my days for granted. I make sure to teach my sisters Jaden and Jordan valuable lessons and try to give back when I can because I feel as though what you get is what you give.”
